WALLYGRUNTA – EVENT BRIEF
Everything you need to have an awesome day is here! 🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃♂️
The word Walyunga translates to “Happy Place” and in “Where’s Wally” he’s always searching for that happy place. We reckon, joining a couple hundred like-minded, nature-loving runners on the trails is just that – our “Happy Place”. Throw in a fun theme, striped shirt, and there’s really no excuse not to smile or have an awesome morning!
Read on for all the essentials you need for event day! Parking is limited – please connect with your fellow trail runners and organise carpooling in our Perth Trail Series (social group)
DIRECTIONS AND PARKING
Please plan to arrive earlier than you normally would.
From Perth, travel out to the Great Northern Highway, turning onto Walyunga Road, where it is signed for the National Park. Pass the Entry Gate and continue to one of the two car parks. This is Walyunga Pool Carpark.
***IMPORTANT*** Be mindful when using GPS Maps. Great Northern Highway/Walyunga Road entry is the ONLY entry point for the event and we’ll be waiting for you at Walyunga Pool Carpark.

Because we’re a big trail community we wait until the majority of participants finish for each course before presenting awards.
We love when you hang out and enjoy the vibe at the Finish. Relax and have a chat while you refuel with coffee, food and drinks available at the food trucks. We’ll have some fun games, spot prizes and announce all the giveaways. But you’ve gotta stick around to win and cheer on your fellow trail runners!
We provide course markings the whole way to help you stay on track! Our blue flagging tape in trees and PTS arrows guide you around the course, and we expect you to follow the course markings at all times.
If you’re techy we’ve included the links for the Black / Blue / Green individual course maps. Click the Orange Course Name (top left) to open the RideWithGPS map. On the left hand side of the page you’ll see there’s options to Pin, Share, or More. Click the More drop down arrow, then click Export as File. Select the file format required for your watch/device and download to your device.
Don’t have anything that can read files? No worries, RideWithGPS has an app! Download the app and follow the course along on your phone as you go! Woohoo!
*Actual race day course may change – always follow course flagging on the day
Check out the Google Map below to see where the Top Up Stops are located. What’s a Top Up Stop? Exactly what the name suggests – a place to top up water, electrolytes, and fruit. Of course, all participants can access water, PTS punch, and fruit when they cross the Finish Line. Don’t forget to carry your PTS collapsible silicone cup.

Trail Tips
Run the Sun, Walk the Shade: When it starts heating up, you may find yourself on an exposed bit of trail. Run this bit, and then to recover, walk the shade!
The Hills Are Upon Us: Shorten your stride for the climbs and keep those arms active. Use them as swinging levers to help you up the hill, not as dangling dead weights. When passing on narrow sections, be sure to call out to the person in front “On your right!” or similar. The person in front should move over when/if it’s safe, but should never have to launch themselves into the bushes to get out of someones way.
Some Rules To Remember
- Disqualification (DQ) if caught littering or short-cutting/cheating.
- Minimum 500mL hydration must be carried for the duration of the event and it’s a DQ if you’re caught without it. If you want to run without hydration there are great footpaths in the city 😉
- Bibs cannot be given to someone else to participate on your behalf – your bib, your identity. If you did not enter this event, you aren’t allowed to run the course on the day. This is called “ghosting” and will result in being refused entry to future PTS events.
- We highly discourage headphone use at this event – it is a risk to your safety.
- Woohoo and have fun while on course, keeping in mind that trail etiquette is key at all PTS events. Look after each other out there!
Woohoo – thanks for coming out for Wallygrunta!
